Lviv’s Philharmonic was founded in 1902, and since that time it’s been one of Ukraine’s top concert halls. Over its century-long history it has hosted performances by world renowned musicians and composers such as Strauss, Mahler, Bartok, and Rubinstein. Each year the Philharmonic stages a number of international festivals, including Virtuozy (Virtuosi) and Contrasts, a festival of contemporary music. There’s also a popular summer season of daily classical music concerts. Recently, the Philharmonic began hosting art exhibitions and literary gatherings in its newly opened “PhilArt” gallery in the theater lobby.
The Lviv Philharmonic is located in the city center on Chaikovs’koho Street just off Shevchenko Avenue. Next to the concert hall is a restaurant and club called Kult and nearby are two popular coffee houses Halka and Gloria Jeans.
